Margaret Bonds-Composer

Margaret Bonds (1912-1972) wrote her first piece, Marquette Street Blues, when she was only 5 years old! Her first piano teacher was her mother, but she later studied with Florence Price while in school. When she showed Nadia Boulanger her work, the famed French composer said she didn't need to study with her. You can listen to Troubled Water below, a variation based on a well-known song.
